Delaney McSweeney had a successful high school career, earning recognition in both volleyball and golf. She was a two-time All-Conference Academic Award recipient in volleyball and golf. In volleyball, she achieved significant honors including First Team All-Conference, Northeast All-District, Third Team All-State, and was named a Des Moines Register Top-50 Volleyball Player in 2018. Her team also secured the Conference Championship in 2017 and was the runner-up in 2018.
At Wake Forest during her 2021 and 2020 seasons, she was a key player, starting in all 29 matches and leading the team in block solos and total blocks. She recorded a season-high eight blocks twice and reached double-digit kills in seven matches. In 2020, she appeared in 12 sets across five matches, contributing 12 kills and 11 blocks. Her standout performances included eight kills against Clemson and four blocks against Syracuse.
During her junior year at Iowa in 2022, Delaney McSweeney saw action in 102 sets. She achieved a career-high of 15 kills against Indiana on October 8th and totaled 195 kills on 445 attacks with a .270 hitting percentage. Additionally, she recorded a career-high of 9 blocks against Florida International on August 26th, earning her a letterwinner distinction.
This will be Delaney's first season with RVA and she will bring a wealth of knowledge to the club.
